It brought her fame to the American public. She was the first actress to play a role in 2002's crime show Big Trouble. Her breakout role was Gloria Delgado on the American TV show Modern Family (2009). She received four Emmys in the period 2010 to 2013 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in an Comedy Series. Sofia has a home in Los Angeles with her son Manolo.
